Christopher Paquin, the Grafton man who died suddenly Friday in a car crash, is being remembered by friends as a compassionate supporter of the Boy Scouts who, last year, won a high award for his work.

“He was such a valued member of the scouting community,” said Erica Krenis-Peck on Facebook Saturday.

State police reported Saturday morning that  Paquin, 47, was identified as the victim of a fiery crash on Route 146 in Sutton.

At 9:17 p.m. Friday, Troopers responded to a single car veering off the right side of the road into a bridge at the Exit 6 overpass, southbound, in Sutton, State police said.

When they arrived, a 2008 Nissan Altima was fully engulfed in flames. The southbound lane was closed by police and traffic detoured while the fire was extinguished by the Sutton Fire Department and the crash was investigated by the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. The Medical Examiner’s Office was called as well.

The highway was reopened at 1:43 a.m. Saturday, police said. The cause of the crash is still unknown, officials said.

Paquin was respected in Grafton. He was a Scoutmaster of Troop 106. In 2015, he was presented the Silver Beaver Award, a service award from the Boy Scouts of America given to adult leaders who made an impact on Scouts. “It is given to those who perform community acts through hard work, self-sacrifice, and years of dedication,” a June 2015 story said.

Paquin was a Cub Scout as a youth, earning his Arrow of Light award before crossing over to Boy Scouts, where he attained the rank of Life Scout.

Chris was a good friend and a great Scout. He gave a lot to the program,” said Victor Irr on Facebook when the news broke Saturday.
