Thanks to the efforts of four high school juniors and Homefield Credit Union, area veterans will get a bit more support.
At a check presentation ceremony during an assembly at Millbury Street Elementary just before the Memorial Day weekend, National Honor Society members Harrison Logan, Connor Burri, Patrick Young, and Eli Valentine raised $758.23. An additional donation from Homefield rounded it up to $1,000. The credit union also supplied the classrooms with coin collection bags and gave the honor society free use of their coin machine to tally each classroom’s donation. “We had each class of students compete against each other to raise the most for our cause,” the boys said.
The money will be donated to Valiant Veterans, who provide nontraditional services for combat veterans. “Thank you for all the hard work raising the money,”: said Sen. Michael Moore who was also in attendance. “I think a lot of people forget we have men and women working overseas, but you took the time to remember that.”
