Grafton News Reporter –
Former School Committee member Teri Turgeon has decided to toss her hat back into the ring as a write-in candidate for the vacant one-year seat.
Reached by phone, Turgeon said she missed being on the committee after serving on the board for almost nine years. She stepped down last December citing personal reasons. Her seat was filled by Jennifer Connolly who is currently running for a three-year term.
“I take this job seriously,” said Turgeon. “I thought stepping away was the right thing to do for me personally. But after stepping away I realized I missed public service, especially the School Committee.”
Turgeon continued, “I hope the voters believe that after almost nine years of serving on the School Committee I still have something valuable to contribute.”
Also up for election is Maureen Cohen who was appointed to fulfill the vacancy left by long time School Committee member Donna Stock. Cohen is running for a three-year term as well. The one year term is the final seat left with no one vying for the open seat.
Teacher contract negotiations may be on the docket for Turgeon to step into if elected as the write-in candidate.
Voters get ready for May 17 election: Next Tuesday, voters will head to the polls to decide on one contested race, Selectmen. Craig Dauphinais is running for re-election in one of two open seats for a three-year term. Sargon Hanna, who is chairman of the Planning Board, is also running as is Ed Prisby, a trial lawyer with experience on different boards and committees.
Other names on the ballot are running unopposed. Aside from the School Committee seats, David Robbins is running for re-election on the Planning Board. On the Board of Library Trustees, Dana Wilson is running for re-election for a three year term. Marilyn Cusher is running for her first term. Aaron Vandesten is seeking to fill a two-year vacancy.
On the Grafton Housing Authority, Jim Gallagher is running for re-election for five years.
